Cables/knits in Fashion 10/27/2010
Just came across this photo from Elle.com. Knit is always big for Fall/Winter, but I think it is especially this year. During my recent trip to the Rockies, my friend and I hit the shops. Viv introduced me to these boots that have an attached knitted sock that is the "leg" of the boot. While we are on the topic of boots and totally unrelated to knitting, in another shop called, aptly, Gingerella, I saw the most fantastic pair of shiny, black, high boots that I fell for. Those who know me, know I love shoes as much as wool. That, of course, extends to boots. Now, I already have some shiny, black (what I call my Catwoman) boots, so romancing these Gingerella French Mode boots would be indulgent (my trip to the Rockies already was), so I showed restraint. But now I just keep thinking about them. Nuts, huh? And now I can't even find them online! Add Comment Just got back... 10/26/2010
Sorry - I have been away and no time to blog. I visited my oldest dearest friend, Viv, in Calgary and got the surprise of my life, when we drove out to where her hubby was working in Canmore. If you want to read more about it and see more pics, you can visit my other blog, Rooms Bloom. Needless to say, it was awe-inspiring and tremendously beautiful. Dear Jen, 10/17/2010
I am so sad that you are gone, but know you will not be suffering any more. When we met for you to do the photography of my book, I knew I had met a kindred spirit and stellar individual. I knew we would continue to be friends after the work. I can't tell you enough how I enjoyed "working" with you (if you can all it that - I had so much fun!) and getting to know you and your world. You have such a great sense of humour and like myself, wear it all on your sleeve. Up front and open, you are the best kind of friend to have. I will miss you, but treasure the things you taught me. Hey! I have been featured on Etsy on "Back at the Lodge"! Yay! So of course, I have to offer it as a pattern too. I am now adding it to the site and then to Ravelry. I love this pattern. It is from my book "Twelve Months of Knitting". I guess I should really add the bag too. Maybe after the weekend. Canadian Thanksgiving 10/12/2010
Hope you all enjoyed your turkey, Canada! I'm still feeling full! There's nothing like the colours we see at this time of year. I took my knitting up north and perhaps, got a few rows in on the drive up. Between cooking, eating, stacking wood, bringing the boat in for the winter and movie watching (with one eye closed), I couldn't get up the energy to knit! Back at it today! Inspiration 10/05/2010
Love all three sweaters, especially the last one! It's raining and cold today. A good day to knit! And make soap! I am making a 9 Bean soup. I bought a giant container of 9 dried beans from Costco. The recipe on the side of it is delicious! My whole family loves it. Crusty bread and a fire going...Mmmm! Inishmore 10/02/2010
If you think of the cliffs of Inishmore (Inis Mor), the largest island of the Arans on the west coast of Ireland, off Galway Bay, you can imagine the striations of rock on the cliffs. What better inspiration than an Aran Isle for my new cowl. I made the cabled neck warmer in Marks & Kattens Eco Ull so you can see the lovely hues of the natural wool. It is quick to knit (as cables go). As I was knitting it, I thought I could double the recipe (stitches) and make the long cowl, this fall's fashion trend, or keep knitting and double the length for a skirt, kind of resembling Stella McCartney's romper from my last post. Spring 2011 - Knits 09/27/2010
The same trends that pop for Spring 2011 filter to knits as well. We saw sheer knits, zigzags and stripes and boxy minimalist sweaters. Trendy colours saturated fibres. Let's take a look at the Crown Royal of Knitwear, Missoni. I would have thought they would have gone the way of 70's stripes, like Marc Jacobs, but tribal and zigzag it was with boxy lines. Salvatore Ferragamo keeps crochet alive in his 70's inspired show. This dress is too cute! Boxy.... ..boxy... ... and more boxy. See how knits are the pop of colour, minimalist and the sheer trend? Interesting poncho (oh, not ponchos again!). Speaking of colour, Pantone give us these to play with, but don't forget black and especially, white - it's so huge for Spring.
